Since David Waud is the only underwater moviemaker east of California who produces educational and entertaining films for young students about the animals in the ocean world, he has frequently been featured in newspapers announcing his SCUBAssemblies that have been scheduled at schools in twenty-eight states and Canada. Some of these schools have been so enthusiastic about David’s unique presentations that after seeing one of his SCUBAssemblies in the fall, they have invited him back for a second program the same school year in the spring. That’s what he calls “underwauder déjà vu!”
David has used the premiere of each of his exciting new films since 1984 as a benefit for charitable organizations in northern Illinois, including Big Brothers – Big Sisters of Metropolitan Chicago (with David’s “little brother” SCUBA diving in the movie), St. Leonard’s House in Chicago (a halfway house for ex-offenders) and Gorton Community Center in Lake Forest where David was chairman of it’s $5.5 million capital campaign. His most recent benefit in January, 2008 raised more than $50,000 in donations for Hearts in Motion, an organization based in Highland, IN that sends medical mission trips to Guatemala. These funds supported the new Phyllis C. Metcalf Clinic, named after David’s mother-in-law who participated in seven annual trips to this third-world country.
The next premiere from Underwauder Productions will be in early 2010.
